Subject: Post surgery adhesions question for Vets

Hi All,
I am hoping someone will have some positive suggestions for my
Cosina. She came home after
adrenal surgery and seemed to be doing well and then her urine
started to started to become dark yellow. Her poop became a
grayish beige. At first it was attributed to her medication,
but toward the end of the week she was yellow too. I took
her back to the vet and they put her on IV support. She
improved and came home after a few days. She was doing
holding her own and then became yellow again. Back to the
vet we go and as the stitches were taken out from the first
surgery she was headed for a liver biopsy. While in there the
vet found the cause of her problem. A permanent remedy to the
problem is what we are looking for.

It seems while the adrenal surgery was in progress nodules
were taken off the pancreas. One was near the bile duct and an
adhesion had formed, blocking the bile duct. Cosina's vet
re-routed and created a new a duct from the gall bladder to
the intestine. ( a first in her career) The bile began to flow
again. Cosina became less yellow, urine less dark and poop
returned to a normal color now that the bile was no longer
blocked. She became active and curious with a great
appetite.

The concern now is if a stricture (sp) closes the new duct.
Cosina is starting to show the signs that this may be
happening. The symptoms described above are coming back. It
is too soon after the last two surgeries (two in 14 days) to
go in again. Does anyone have any experience with this or
any suggestion as to how to keep the new duct from closing up
if a third surgery is done?

The liver biopsy result was OK, only showing signs of what
would be found with the blocked bile duct. her blood work
shows some improvement over the ones done prior to the
re-routing.

Thank you for any help you can give. I hope my description
isn't too muddled.

All the best,
Peggy Alden-Clapper
