Subject: babyfood
Well, after much back-and-forth discussion and private e mails, I
have to announce that "babyfood as it is known" at least in the US,
does not exist in a ferret-useful form in New Zealand - or several
other places, either.
So what is the best substitute if a fert needs a bland food? As my
ferrets have a high proportion of meat and poultry in their diet, I
have used steamed minced chicken; if it is finely minced together
with the skin it seems that it will have a reasonable fat content yet
be easy to digest. Steamed minced chicken fills some of the other
criteria too - easy to hand feed, mashed or pureed with some hot
water ot chicken juices it can be lapped up, and of course the high
water content helps prevent dehydration.
But surely what would be most suitable would be a "bland" version of
what the ferret normally eats, so any nutritionist's tips on making
something bland out of raw meat,or individual brnds of kibble, or
whatever we feed our ferrets, would be appreciated. Perhaps there is
something we should look for if making a kibble "porridge", or some
other useful hints and tips?
