Subject: Re: what are people feeding ferts around the world?

I am in New Zealand, and there is a definite "push" towards feeding
kibble rather than fresh meat, chiefly because we want the domestic
ferret not to be associated in the general populations view, with the
feral ferret. Having said that, though, the ferret is to be outlawed
anyway. The ferret food available here is usually stale and doesn't
smell too tasty; most of us use a mixture of premium kitten foods
such as Royal Canin( my preference), Eukanuba, Iams and Purina, and
carcase meat such as chicken giblets, poultry necks etc. My two old
ferrets have had nothing but carcase meat all their life until I got
them 18 months ago; at 7 and 8 they are healthy active and alert with
minimal or no health or aging problems. I like kibble for its
convenience, but prefer to feed some meat be it poultry, game or
rabbit at least 2-3 times weekly.
BTW, we rarely give our ferts laxatives, as we don't believe they
groom like cats do. I have never given my two laxatives at all.
Laxatives are reserved for when you know he's eaten something he
shouldn't and you are trying to ease its passage along ... My two
old boys were not castrated until last year and have never been
descented.
