Subject: Sick ferret?

My ferret, Loki, is around two or three years old. I got him from
the XYZ Ferret Shelter about six months ago, and so far he has been
in good health. But recently he has been losing weight, and I
noticed something odd about his stool--when it is left in the box
for a day or more, there is something growing on/in it that
resembles gray fungus or thick spiderweb. It has the consistency of
a cotton ball or very thick web. This has beeen happening regularly
now for about a week or two. Is this some kind of parasite or a
symptom of something else?

Before bringing him in to the vet I just thought I would check and
see if anyone is familiar with this occurrence or could offer me an
any information at all.

Thanks much,

Jeff

[It sounds like mold; you probably have spores in the house. Clean
up very often and use bleach when possible, drying everything very
well before ferrets are near those things. -- Sukie]
