If he has gained a lot of weight quickly, it may very well be cause for
concern. It's hard to tell from your description whether there is a
problem or not. Your vet would be best qualified to tell. That's
quickly becoming my mantra - when in doubt, it never hurts to check
with your vet.

I find that it is really hard to gauge them on looks alone. Our Digger
looked pleasantly plump over the winter but now looks almost anorexic.
But it's a weight change of only 6 oz, or 15%. I really recommend
getting a scale and tracking their weights. I record the weights of my
bunch monthly, at the same time I give them their heartworm meds. (I
need the weights to give the right amount of meds, anyway.)
An inexpensive food scale will handle most ferrets under 5 pounds.
Look for one with a large weight limit (4-5 pounds usually) and the
ability to zero out the weight of a bowl (to put the ferret in).
I found exactly one small animal scale for sale to consumers, bought
it, and it's a piece of junk. Avoid this thing if you find it.
I asked my vet about their small animals scales - those cost hundreds
of dollars. Sometimes that's the difference between "professional"
and "consumer" - same electronics, higher price.
The point - stick with an inexpensive food scale.

My guys are often slightly damp underneath for several minutes after
peeing. Could that be all it is in your case - just (un)lucky timing?
In any case, it's worth having your vet take a look. He or she can at
least palpate Rhodry's abdomen and see if there's anything unusual
going on.
