Hi Kelly,
I am in New Zealand so a lot of what I could tell you about diet and
disease doesn't apply in the US but wherever you are, don't worry
about the fact that the boy is bigger than the girl ... it's
perfectly normal for that to be so!
Ferrets DO sleep a lot and yours have had a stressful time recently,
they don't yet know that you're not going to give them up like their
first mom did, or the pet store owner seemed to do. SO their little
bodies are trying to recover from some of that stress, and minimise
the stress of what is going on around them ( just being in a new
place is stressful ) by sleeping. Add to that they are probably are
indeed a bit malnourished, with tummy upsets, if all they got was
supermarket cat food...and a malnourished body doesn't deal too well
with stress.
You sound as if you are doing just great for the present. Get the
book that Sukie recommends, and don't push your dog and ferrets to be
friends. Give the little ones time to settle in the security of their
cage, and your dog time to realise that you do still love him too.
Then start to teach them to be friends, when you're all more
confident about each other.
Best of luck, and I wish all ferrets could find an owner as concerned
to do things right as yourself! You deserve to have them for free!
