Subject: Re: ferret diet

Hi All;
New to this group. Found the add in Ferrets Magazine. I have 4
ferrets, 3 of which are 3 years old (rescues) and one young one 3-1/2
months old. Hoping to soon get another young one.
Diets. I feed the Ferrets a combo of Totally Ferret, Path Valley
Ferret food, Maximum Nutrition kitten food and Nutro Max Kitten. I
add 1 tablespoon of Ferrettone to their food. They also get (every
other day their ferretvite and ferret lax). I won't feed live
uncooked food, the reason is this, bear with me. I also rescue rats.
I had rescued several who the previous owner fed live food to and
they deveoped tapeworms and intestinal parasites. Several had died
from this. The parasites caused abscesses to form on both the
stomach and liver. Several people (snake owners) had contacted me in
regards to why their snakes had passed on after several feedings of
mice. Mice/rats and rodents and insects, can carry various
organisms, that not harmful to them, but can be very harmful to other
species. Also, I will not feed food which contain BHT, BHA or
exothyquin, as these are proven to cause cancer in rats. The
Ferrets, also get cooked chicken, steak and fish (fish roughly 1 time
a month as a treat).
Also, what I am wondering, is their a site for Ferrets on herbal
products? Such as to boost immunity, help build killer cells to
fight cancer, etc? I use Pau D'Arco on rats with lymphosarcoma,
along with ellagic21, IP-6, etc. Would like this info for ferrets if
the need arises in the future.
Thanks a bunch. Hoping to learn a lot here and keep the notes on
hand.
