Two things to check among the first things considered:
1. adrenal growth
2. ulcer
Adrenal neoplasias have a tendency in ferrets to cause
secondary prostate and urinary tract infections. There are
surgical approaches which are usually recommended but in a
ferret who is compromised Lupron injections can make more
sense.
Also, DO go through back FHL posts using the search engine at
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Ferret-Health-list
to find some back posts from veterinarian, Jerry Murray, to see meds that can be helpful for prostate disease in ferrets.
Adrenal neoplasias also cause fur loss as a common symptom.
These growths are hyperestrogenic.
If both adrenal glands come out completely then medical
replacement of essential adrenal products is needed for
survival.
Tarry stool are from digested blood
I'd like to direct you to some links nad websites that you will find
helpful and which have vet-written information to assist your vet.
I'd also like to recommend that your vet contact AAHA Press and
get Karen Purcell's _Essentials of Ferrets_ which was
published two or three years ago.
Here are the some websites that had vet-writen adrenal
neoplasia or ulcer info the last time I looked:

http://www.lbah.com/Ferrets/ferret_diseases.htm
http://www.bradleyhills.com/ and http://www.ferretdoctor.com

and here are useful linking sites (I recall that one is defunct but
not which one, offhand.):

Adrenal neoplasia and ulcerations are two of the more
commonly seen ferret medical problems.
