I was told the same thing about Nutrimax Kitten
having the best in proteins. I looked at the label and
corn figures high on the list of ingredients (number 1
or 2 if memory serves). The salesperson admitted that
she knew nothing of ferrets, but insisted that corn
provided excellent protein for cats.
Ferrets, being obligate carnivores (meaning a meat
diet is the best for them - tell THAT to a
kibble-scarfing fuzz butt!), need more meat protein
than Nutrimax Kitten provides. As I understand it,
corn gives the little guys all sorts of health
challenges, but it is difficult to avoid.
I opted for Iam's Eukanuba Chicken and Rice Kitten,
Purina one Kitten, and Marshall's Premium as they
offer the best of what's available to me locally
(though IMHO they aren't really THE best for our
ferts.) Each of these have meat or meat by products as
the first 3 or 4 ingredients, a guideline I have tried
to stick by. I am still hunting for the ideal ferret
kibble.
As your babies adjust, their poop should start
looking more normal. Just try not to change their food
too much or too often. You might try a mix of kibbles
so if you can't find one brand, they still have the
others and any new introductions to the diet won't be
as upsetting as changing the whole diet at once.
All the best to you and your fuzzy kids.
