Subject: Bee venom
I just thought a recent incident in my home would be interesting to
mention. There was a large wasp flying about our window. Before I could get
back to the room with the swatter, all the ferrets were around something on
the floor. It was the wasp. Okay it was 2/3 of the wasp, and still alive.
It had half its abdomen bitten off, all the guts from the remaining part of
the abdoment removed. The ferrets thought it all very interesting. I don't
know what could have happened to that bee in just two minutes other than one
of the ferrets got a hold of it. Examination did not reveal any sting areas,
any swelling, etc. None of the ferrets acted odd or sore in any way. I
watched them all closely the rest of the day and there was no reaction.
So I'm just amazed, that if indeed one of the ferrets managed to bite
that bee in half, without getting stung, that the venom itself did not hurt
it. If a bee does sting a ferret, is it like a tiny dog? If a tiny dog gets
stung you must be careful, and adminster Benedryl much of the time.
