Subject: Re: expressing bladder, ever harmful?

If there are crystals already forming in the
urethra, it might be difficult to express the bladder
and probably could cause some movement of the crystals
which in turn could block the urine from exiting
altogether! Also we have had 2 ferrets lately that
both had tumors in the urethra causing blockage and
trying to squeeze urine out in these instances, could
get you a really nasty bite!
Personally, even though Troy Lynn gave a very
thorough description on how to express the bladder,
since you do not know the ferret well and you are not
sure why he is blocked, then I would wait until your
vet has assessed the situation!
Of course if you should notice that he is straining
and nothing is happening, then do not wait but rush to
the vet!---Angela.
