Dear Friends,
I have a female, Cindy, about five years old who has started losing
hair across her shoulders and on her stomach. One of our others,
Slinky, lost hair about six months ago but in a different pattern.
When Slinky lost her hair, it seemed to be a pretty overall thing
with the guard hairs falling out leaving an undercoat of hair on her
body. We watched her closely and qickly after losing hair, she
started growing it back. The areas where Cindy has lost hair are
balding. Soft pink bare skin. We took her to the vet yesterday and
pre-surgery bloodwork was done. If the doc gets the results back
today and all is well, she will have surgery tomorrow, Wed. I asked
about the adrenal panel and the doctor said if it was his ferret,
he'd do the pre-surgery bloodwork and go ahead. From having seen
other adrenal ferts who have lost alot of hair, Cindy seems to look
adrenal. The advice I'd like is, would the rest of you just go ahead
with the surgery or do the Tennessee panel first? Something is going
on but I don't want to put her through unnecessary surgery. She is
our kid who is the most active and silly, and also the one who is
the most cautious when it comes to things that are unfamiliar to
her. I don't want to subject her to unnecessary stress possibly
resulting in ulcers. Also, she has no vulva swelling.
Your advice is greatly appreciated. :)
Thanks so much,
Tiffany and Cindy
