Subject: paraurethral cysts - anyone have experience with this?

Loki's infection seems to be what the vet calls a paraurethral cyst.
From the info I got, these cysts are suspected to be the prostatic
tissue. I saw the x-rays, the mass is quite large - larger than the
bladder at least. I also was told that it is almost certainly the
result of an adrenal problem. Loki is only about 2 years old and I
adopted him from the shelter because I thought he was young and
healthy and I didn't want to deal with a disease again so soon (my
other ferret was diagnosed with insolinoma a month ago). The shelter
won't help me out in anyway other than to take him back which I will
not do. I don't give up on my pets. There was no health guarantee
from the shelter so I guess I am screwed. So, what needs to be done
is 1) the cysts needs to be drained and that will have to be done
surgically and 2)most likely there will be adrenal tumors that need
to be removed at the same time. By the way, no signs of adrenal
disease have manifested.

Has anyone gone through this with their ferret? Outcome? The urine
that was aspirated from his bladder today was full of puss (very
thick yellow puss), some blood, and packed with white blood cells. I
know I don't have much time to sit on this - he runs the risk of the
infection going into his kidneys and into the blood stream. I will
be calling a vet tomorrow with more experience (this vet mostly
quoted books and has little experience with such surgeries). I trust
that the people on here have more of an idea of what is possible and
what isn't. I am worried sick - I am praying that someone will tell
me that this can be fixed.
