Subject: ferret/cat foods separation

keep the cat food away from them?>
To keep the cat & ferret foods separate I keep the cat's food &
litter on the 2nd floor. The ferrets have the run of the 1st floor.
I've blocked the stairs off and the cat is able to jump over the
barricade (boy do my ferts hate that!) Though the kitty does cry
alot and seems to feel left out when he sees them eating in the
kitchen. If I put a water bowl down in the kitchen they all have a
turn drinking out of it. Should I be concerned that the ferrets
could get bacteria from the cat or vice versa?
I have also been worried about my kitty's health because he has a
sensative stomach. I have a problem with keeping my kitty away from
the ferret food. He will stick his paw into their cage and knocks
some kibble out of their dish on to the floor and feasts! I've
caught him doing this numerous times and try to keep the ferret
dishes away from the wall of the cage. Then my new kit, Zira knocks
the food dish down the ramp into the litter box - of course!! And
the saga continues....
