Subject: Weaning from phenobarbital?

Has anyone weaned/tried to wean a ferret completely off of
phenobarbital?

Tigger has been on it since mid-December and has decreased from 0.2
ccs twice a day to 0.1 ccs twice a day. (I apologize, I don't have
the strength handy but decreased VERY gradually.) Since he is doing
so very well and isn't showing any signs of seizures (hasn't since
being on the meds), is it realistic that he would ever NOT need to be
on the pheno? I do understand that it is habit forming and he put on
about 8 ounces of all-over chub with the medication but since his
activity level is good, he's lost 6 ounces of that extra weight. He
sits at a very comfortable 2 pounds 11 ounces.

Is there anyone with similar experience that tried this? Any
suggestions? Have any of the vets done so with ferrets?

I'd like to get him off it completely if possible since he is also on
enacard, lasix and DOCP injections. He gets enough syringes and
pills already. If we can eliminate one med and the stress associated
with it, I'd honestly like to.

Thank you in advance...

Sincerely,
Erin
