I have weaned my first ferret off of phenobarb. I
reduced the pheno by 1/4 every two weeks and when it
was at the lowest dose I gave that for 2 weeks once a
day instead of twice. Then I stopped and he was fine
and didn't have anymore seizures. That was about 4 yrs
ago. I also had him neutered about the same time he
was having seizures because he would try and mate my
foot and go into a seizure(he was 5 yrs old).
Unfortunately I did not know a lot about ferrets and
don't remember if the vet told me about adrenal or
not. He did give me some options and I gave him the
pheno. He was a miracle ferret. During that time he
had some systemic tumors removed and they found his
lymph node on his back leg swollen and removed it and
biopsied it and it was cancerous and the vet thought
he would only live for 2 months. However my little
fighter lived 2-2 1/2 more years. He was also on pred.
If you need any more info you can email me privately.
