I had this same problem with Tera, my ferret, getting into the cat food. My
cat is older (about 12) and a little overweight, so she is on low-cal food.
However, that didn't seem to matter to Tera! She would eat up all the cat
food and turn her nose away at her Totally Ferret.

What I did was this: I would feed the cat first thing in the morning before
I let Tera out of her cage. After about 10-15 minutes, I would put the cat
food up on the counter where no one could get it and let Tera out to play.
After Tera passed out for the day, I put the cat food back on the floor. The
cat would finish it off before Tera woke up again for her evening romp.

Hope this helps!
