Subject: Re: Question on vacc reactions and stunted growth

Roger,
I am no expert, but my ferret had a reaction last year to her
distemper vaccination, though I wasn't aware of it being a reaction
till some time later. We stayed at the vet for half an hour then
went home and when we got home she had some bloody diareaha(?),
which is a reaction but I didn't know that. She was a little
lethargic after but she improved. Anyway this past month we went in
for the distemper shot again and within 2 min. she was in full blown
anaphalctic shock, she was very close to death, fortunately she
pulled through, but it took a week for her to return to normal. We
used the new Merial vaccination, I was hoping for no reaction but it
happened any way. I am not having her vaccinated for distemper any
more. I have another ferret who almost died too from the distemper
shot so she won't get them any more either. I even pretreated my
ferret first to lessen the chance of a reaction and it didn't do any
good. In my opinion your ferret probably will have a reaction again,
you should discuss this with your vet.
