Vaccines do not necessarily remain effecive for as long in
different species.

Okay, this is from memory of what began about 1987 or 1988 so
realize that recollections can be faulty: When the testing was
originally being done to find useful rabies vax for ferrets, some
didn't work, some caused permanent damage to the ferrets
tested, and one lasted for only 6 months even though it lasted
much longer in other species. That narrowed down the field,
and then Merial's preceding company was the only one that
decided to follow-up with the further testing to meet USDA
approval, do all the filing, etc.

I do NOT know if IMRAB-3 was ever tested for longer durations in ferrets.
