I'd do EXACTLY what you are doing: split them up for now, have
him scheduled to get that adrenal neoplasia which is making
him sexually aggressive out, then give him a good and gentle
time to recover (no climbing, newspaper for litter to keep him
cleaner, etc), then reintroduce them with LOTS of attention for
everyone.
