I went to the vet today, and she gave me clavamox and told me to keep
giving pepto in between feedings. Question: Is Amoxidrops -
amoxicillan? And isn't Biaxin and antibiotic as well? Why two
antibiotics then? I am hoping Carafate is similar to Pepto, because
she didn't give me that, even though I mentioned it. I felt the vet
knew ferrets well (although this was my first visit with her) .
By the way: 2 ferrets - 12 days post adrenal surgery and both are
showing signs of hair regrowth... Could it be?
Thanks

[To tackle some diseases a "cocktail" of meds in needed. The effective Helicobacter or ulcer routines I have read about and used involve such combinations, each component of which is not enough alone. When Amoxi (Yes, they are the same thing.) is used then Flagyl (Yucky nad stressful) is also used in one set and with that combo Pepto is used as well because of the action of the bismuth in it. The Biaxin combo also includes Amoxi and costs more but is much less stressful which is great when ulcers are already present. Carafate is a marvelous med; it forms a sort of transient "bandage" over the damaged areas, allowing them to heal and avoid further irritation. Hope that helps. -- Sukie]
