Subject: Cutaneous hematoma

What else could look like - or cause - a hematoma on the skin?

One of our newest has a lump behind one of his legs. There is a hard
mass underneath it the size and shape of a baby pea, but the mass isn't
really visible itself. There was what appeared to be a small hematoma
visible on the surface of the skin, though.

His vet aspirated the hematoma (but not the mass), and got a thick
fluid containing only normal red blood cells, so she didn't send the
aspirate off for pathology.

The hematoma itself seems to be healing now, but the mass remains. Any
idea what this could be?

If the mass is still there by his next vet visit (3 wks), we're likely
going to remove the whole thing and send it off for path.

Thanks,
