What does he sleep in? Why not try making him a hammock from soft fine
mesh or netting, so that the wastes fall through into a catch-pan? If
you make a ramp up to the edge of it, or hang it right beside a shelf
in his cage (wherever he sleeps), then he should still be able to pull
himself into it. I don't know if he would take to the hammock, but
it's worth a try.
