I have always found it easier to get an adult ferret to accept a kit,
rather then another adult. I don't think sex usually makes much
difference, though.
If you will be getting the new ferret from a shelter, you might see
if they will let you bring Muddy with you, and that way he can pick
out his new playmate. Some shelters do allow this, but, due to
concerns over ADV and other contagious diseases, some do not. You
would need to check with the shelter on their policies.
