Subject: when to do surgery

I have been reading and I am so sorry for everyone who has lost a fuzzy. I have a question and would like everyone's feedback on this subject. In my experience, It seems that the older the ferret, the less chance they have of surviving surgery, they either crash on the table or die a few months after. This has been true with different vets, not just one. I don't think the vet should be the one considered at fault unless they did something really stupid. Also, I have found that some can be insulinomic(sp?) without us knowing it and when fasted for surgery for more than 4 hours, which is all they need and also not on an IV drip during surgery, this can cause them to crash. Also, if a ferret is very ill,, and an older ferret, the chances of a successful surgery is slim. If I am wrong, please let me know, I would like to hear everyone's experiences and the ages of the ferrets.

thanks,

sue
