Subject: Re: New Member, Insulinoma.

This is my first family of ferrets (4). One of ours had insulinoma
starting last year July. We took her to our normal veterinarian, who
prescribed 0.3 cc's of prednisone twice a day.

A year had past by and she started having other problems - possible
adrenal, which I have been posting about recently. We took Tigger to
the vet last week Friday, and the veterinarian asked us to decrease
the dosage to 0.15 - and very knowledgable people on this health list
informed me that was a mistake...

So I took her to a more knowledgable veterinarian. Here is where my
information can be valuable. Dr. Nathan informed me that 0.3 cc's of
prednisone twice a day is on the "low" side of the prednisone
medicine. Tigger will not even touch the stuff unless it is mixed in
with a teaspoon of Gerber's chicken flavor baby food (blue lable, # 2
Dinner). I have gotten very strange looks in Krogers with my wife
buying Gerber's baby food with no baby with us :D

When we first put Tigger on the prednisone, she didn't respond well
for the first couple days - 2 or 3 days. After that, she was just
like her normal self again.

Just relating my experience to you. There are others more
knowledgable than I that can give you more advice.
