Nutrical, and most of the ferret gels, contains "malt syrup" which
contains maltose. Maltose is a complex sugar and behaves like a
complex carbohydrate rather than like a simple sugar, so you don't get
the same severity in the spikes. Maltodextrin is also a complex sugar,
and is one of the safer to serve. Corn syrup, on the other hand,
generally contains large amounts of fructose, a simple sugar. This is
definitely one to avoid. (Corn syrup, fructose, glucose, or dextrose
are all good ingredients to avoid.)

I can't say anything about whether or not to give them *any* sugars -
rely on your vet's advice for that!
