Subject: Thymoma
I just saw your post on Thymoma in ferrets. I had a case about 4 years ago
in a 5 year old ferret. The doctors we worked with in Ontario had never seen
a Thymoma in a ferret before and were sure it was a case of Lymphosarcoma.
However 2 fine needle asp's showed that it indeed was a thymoma. X-rays done
3 weeks apart showed a dramatic increase in the thymoma's size and I was
told Salem (the ferret) would suffocate within a month.
I opted for surgery, done at our university with a respirator and many
different specialists. The prognosis was very poor and they gave Salem only
a 20% chance of survival. Most of the vets felt that Salem would die on the
table. Well, Salem made it and lived 2/12 years after.
