Subject: Lydia's vet visit today

Hello all.

well, we went back to the vet today and Lydia hadn't lost any more weight,
she is at 1.2 lbs, but she was dehydrated again. So, fluids were
administered. She also got a shot of Cimetidine, which if I recall
correctly from my time as a Pharmacy Tech, is the chemical name for
Tagamet. I was sent home with 6 syringes of the cimetidine to administer to
her twice daily. We are to taper her off the Pred at .1 cc twice daily for
the next day or so and start her on Diazoxide at .25 cc twice daily. We are
also to give her 1 cc of pepto bismol 3 times a day to help with her upset
stomach. While at the store to get the Pepto on the way home, I did find
plain pureed meat & broth baby food, so I got a jar of Ham and one of
chicken. She has eaten the ham readily from a baby spoon at 2 feeding
sessions now, so I am relieved. Also, the vet said right now ANYTHING in
her tummy is good, and he suggested I get her some whipped cream or cool
whip. Just to perk her up so she'll eat. So, what I have done is gave her a
taste of the coolwhip, then mixed a small amount of it in with the pureed
ham. I think it made it much more palatable for her, she ate 4 heaping baby
spoons of the mixture. It was mostly ham, looked odd and smelled odd, but
hey, she ate it. *lol* So she has 2 types of meds for her tummy. One in a
shot, one in the mouth. She is not grinding her teeth as much now, so I
think it is helping. Every 3-4 hours I get her out of the sick cage and
feed her again. I hope it helps.
