Subject: Re: Lupron in older ferrets

A couple other things I thought of. I recall Dr. Weiss saying that sometimes the 100
and 200 (it's been so long I can't recall if it's mcg or mg) monthly time-released doses
were not sufficient doses, versus the four-month shot that releases more Lupron per
month. Also, perhaps for an insulinomic ferret pediapred is causing the hair loss- not
sure how but one of my vets suggests it causes a situation similar to an
overstimulated adrenal gland, versus the stimulation coming from the pituitary to
cause the adrenal gland to over-secrete hormones. Since Lupron interrupts the
process at the pituitary if pediapred were resulting in hair loss the Lupron wouldn't
affect it, or so my vet said. I don't hear other vets say that pedipred use in ferrets can
lead to hair loss, though I have heard by more than one vet that this is the case in
dogs.
