Subject: [Ferret-Health-list] Ferretone

Hi Katharine,

My vet told me to be sparing with Ferretone as the fat? oils?
I can't remember - apparently they break down into sugar.
Didn't really make any sense to me, I just took her word for
it. She didn't tell me that I needed to stop, just to be
sparing and use it to help ferrets take meds or to clip claws,
etc. Hope that helps, and that maybe someone else out there
can explain more scientifically what my vet was trying to say.
:)

Is Ferretone appropriate for insulinomic ferrets? I'm
substituting Ferretone for NutriCal (or NutriStat) and
trying a little bit of Ferretone mixed with vaseline in
place of Laxatone (or LaxiStat). Does that sound right? My
vet read the label on the Ferretone and thought it sounded
fine. There doesn't seem to be any sugar in it.
