Subject: Re: ferret bite - behavior or health problem?

All of our ferrets have been fascinated with feet.
Makes sense since that's the part they see most often
and they are always flapping and wiggling around.
They particularly enjoy toe hunting under the covers
so they always go into their cage at night. Plus we
tend to be barefoot more often in the summer, so they
get excited about that direct access to our feet. I
have one that will lick your feet and ankles when she
wants your attention. If we ignore her, she will bite
gently - not enough to hurt but enough to get your
attention. It took a while before she learned that we
didn't have that tough ferret skin though.

On the other hand, sometimes a personality change,
such as more aggressive behavior, can indicate a
medical problem.
