Subject: Final update on Eddie--Pathology reveals Insulinoma

On 6-2-02 I posted my first plea (#13470) for my little Eddie, 3 yo,
otherwise healthy male, with SUDDEN onset (5-11-02) of hind
end weakness accompanied by florescent green and watery
diarrhea with lethargy.

On 6-8-02 an update was posted (#13672). ADV test was
negative. During surgery on 6-5-02 two LARGE adrenals were
removed (he had NO hair loss)--and one VERY large mass was
removed from the pancreas (all 3 glucoses--two fasting and one
not fasting--had been NORMAL!!!). The pancreatic mass looked
benign. Biopsies of the stomach and intestines were taken.
However, five hours after surgery Eddie died. Note that he had
been given an injection of Percorten-V because of the bilateral
adrenalectomy.

6-14-02 The pathology report is back.
Much to everyone's shock----including the four wonderful
veterinarians who took care of him during his
three-and-a-half-week illness----pathology reveals that Eddie
had Insulinoma. His clinical presentation was certainly atypical.
The adrenal pathology revealed no malignancy, but adrenal
cortical hyperplasia.

The stomach/intestinal pathology was normal. No IBD.

I miss Eddie terribly. It breaks my heart that he didn't present
with any of the normal symptoms of this awful cancer. If
Insulinoma had been suspected--maybe he could have been
helped before it was too late. I pray that this information helps
someone else get an early diagnosis. If you have any questions,
please contact me.
