It's very possible that even a barium scan can miss a foreign body.
If the foreign body is large enough so that it won't pass into the
intestine and cause a total blockage, it could cause what you're
seeing. Been there, done that!

Sidney had two rubber disks in his stomach that were too large to
enter the intestine. They caused problems for a few months (this was
1990 and there were no ferret knowledgable vets to speak of) until
they were found by exploratory surgery.

Megaesophagus is another condition that comes to mind, and I think
this would be obvious on a barium scan, though I'm not positive.

I think it's probably time to go in and see what's going on.
