Subject: Re:nine year old ferret
Hi to everyone on the list and hope you all are having a fun summer
with your ferrets. I do have a question for all of you. I have an
older ferret, Bria is her name. She is now nine years old. She is
doing well now that she is on her pediapred for her insulinoma and
carafate for her ulcers. What my question is, is can they loose
their hair from old age. Bria is showing no other signs of adrenal
disease other than hair loss. It is the typical pattern of hair
loss and yet her skin is nice and white, no excessive itching as I
had seen in her previously three years ago when she underwent
surgery on her left adrenal gland. Her female parts are all fine
and as I said she shows no other signs that I know of that she is in
distress. Her hair loss at this point is becoming very noticeable
and am concerned that I or my vet is missing something. Her weight
is fairly good, with the exception that her belly is becoming pair
shaped and reminds me of my husbands beer belly. Opps, sorry honey,
LOL. Her diet consists of chicken gravy twice a day and pathvalley
ferret kibble in a bowl that is always available to her for in
between snacking on. She gets no table scraps or treats of cereal
or raisins or anything like that. Her diet is pretty boring, but
she was never one to eat plain meat or eggs. Not sure what I can do
for her due to her age. Am eager to hear what others feel could be
the problem. Thank you all in advance.
Sincerely, Tina and the furry crew of three: Bria Anne, Jasper, and
Lucille.
