Subject: first time annuals---any preferrence?
Hi again everyone. Well, it's that time of year. This is Goku and
Kira's first time for annuals and stemming from some posts in the
last month or so about shots, I was curious as to which ones in
particular they need. I know they need a distemper and a killed
rabies vaccine, but which distemper? Upon my very first visit to my
vet for their first set of shots, he gave them what they needed and
that was it. After their final round of shots, he mentioned there
was a distemper shot for ferrets called Ferravac, (I think). I
guess I had a dumbfounded look on my face because my boyfriend
Brandon asked me what was wrong and I said, "Well what in the world
have you been giving them if it wasn't something for ferrets? I
mean, they ARE ferrets, so wouldn't you give them the shots that are
FOR ferrets?" He replied saying that he had given them canine
distemper shots and that it was perfectly alright and for their
annuals we could use the ferravac if it made me happier. He's
basically the best vet in my area, Bowling Green, KY, and when when
I first met him I asked him about his experience with ferrets and
he's knowledgable, plus the appearance of ferrets have greatly
increased here in the past two years. So my question is, which one
sould I get? Common sense tells me the one for the ferrets but I
wanted to see what everyone else has been given. Also, should they
have anything else done like a check up or a test of somesort to
check for things? To me they are perfectly happy and healthy
bouncing bundles of joy, but I'm not a vet so I don't know much
about ADV and many others things that members have written about,
though I am reading up and learning. I've always been the type to
be better safe than sorry. Thank you all in advance for any
replies.
