I would not use pine, or any other litter based on aromatic woods, with
ferrets. Please read Jeff Johnston's article on cedar and pine, with
particular note to the potential for allergic reactions and respiratory
problems possibly triggered by abietic acid in pine. I realize pine
litter is not the same as shavings used for bedding, but I still think
there is some potential for problems in some ferrets:

I believe, as many on the list seem to, that the litter made from
recycled newspaper is best.
