Subject: Dr's PLEASE offer advice - What could this be?
Pam had adrenal surgery on May 31. The tumor was in the vena cava.
The blood supply was clamped off and there wasn't anything sent to
pathology. With that said, I asked the new vet about the lumps and
she told me if I didn't know better, she would think they were
testicles. I said well we know they are not, are they lymph nodes?
She said they must be. She said she could sedate her and aspirite
(sp?) a lump, but there's only a 50% chance we'd find out what it
was. I asked about the other lymph nodes and she said it was odd
that it was only those two that got big. I gave Pam back to the vet
and said I read that there are lymph nodes in the lower back and
behind the legs, and she felt around and said your right, they are
enlarged. I am a little upset that I had to pull a diagnosis out of
her, and I am upset that I don't know what it is - or even what it
COULD BE. I asked about lymphosarcoma and she said it could be that,
she didn't know. She didn't offer much information! I asked about
chemo and she said she didn't know much about it or and didn't do
it.
My questions are: Is there ever a situation where lymph nodes are
enflamed, 2 VERY large - where the illness is TREATABLE? And if so
will the treatments make her uncomfortable?
Right now, she is alert, eating well, drinking well, wants to run
around, honks occasionally, fights with her sister, and if the
chances are that she has cancer - I'd rather not put her through
anything to save her for another few months. She will be 7 in Sept.
If I had any ideas that this could be something besides cancer, I'd
borrow the money right now, find a new Dr and get all the treatments
possible. I just don't have the money to go from vet to vet, seeing
if they have any ferret experience only to have them say "I don't
know".
I am just trying to be sensible right now and not overly emotional.
I have always put the myself first, never questioned money and asked
them to do "whatever" to save the animal. Sometimes I regretted
putting them through the treatments I did. My last ferret went
through 3 months of misery and died. That was after I spent over
$3,000. I'd borrow from my parents if I knew there was something I
could do. Please tell me what this COULD BE - should I write it off
as cancer or could it be a whole bunch of things? Thank you. I
apologize for this being so long. Please e-mail me at
