Hi Rae,
A knee is a knee is correct, but your description says
the problem is on the front leg (ie arm). The knee is located
on the back leg. I think you are talking about the elbow
which is dislocated. Two things can be done. 1) sedate
the ferret and "pop" the elbow into place. Then use a SAM splint
for 1-2 weeks to keep it in place. 2) Surgery to put the elbow in
place
and pins to keep it in place. Since this has been going on for a
year,
it will likely need surgery to repair the elbow. Splinting works
well if
it is done the same day as the injury. Time to look for a good
orthopedic
surgeon in your area.
