Subject: Need vet consultation - 2500 ALT
I am going to apologize first off for the length of this post.
We have been dealing with, what we thought to be Insulinoma, for
several months. Our Lucky, a 4 and 1/2 year old male albino started
losing balance in his rear legs immediately after the death of his
soulmate, Bandit. With a BG of 48, he was diagnosed with Insulinoma.
He was put on a dose of 1.25mg of Pred (pill form) twice per day.
Surgery was scheduled, and the day of the surgery his BG was at 27
and the vet wisely cancelled.
We found a more ferret savy vet, who put him on liquid Pred at .6
cc/twice daily. We returned to him a week later for full blood work
and x-rays. The heart is a little large, the spleen is a little
large. But nothing over sized enough to be a concern. The BG came up
to 137, but the liver values are very high. A 2500 value on the ALT
goes beyond the affects of the Pred., or does it?
Yesterday, we took him in for the surgery. The vet found no
Insulinoma, no enlarged adreanals, and was begining to check the
liver when Lucky started having convulsions. He promptly got out. As
a result, Lucky is still with us.
I have given this vet Dr. Bruce Williams contact info, but it is from
a January, 1999 posting. Dr. Saulsbury plans to contact him. I would
appreciate any confirmation of how my vet can contact Dr. Williams.
I would appreciate any and all input on Lucky's condition. We know
there is more than one medical issue involved, we're just not sure
what they are. Again, my vet wants to contact Dr. Williams.
Thanks in advance.
Mike
