Subject: What is a heart stick?

I had a ferret put down by an emergency vet and they
actually found a vein, my vet does the shot that sedates
them and then the needle to inject the final medication
into the heart. I witnessed both and found both ways
to be kind, the animal is sedated for the heart injection
and had no reaction at all to it, and in a few seconds
died. I was grateful to the vets who helped my ferrets
cross the bridge when the time came, and to allow
them to leave in a quiet, comfortable way. Too bad humans
are not allowed such a choice.

BTW, not all of them, but some do puff their tails out after it
is over, it doesn't seem to have anything to do with
fear, or pain, but with a physiologic response.
