Subject: Advice wanted for German ferret

Daniella has mailed me off list and I have translated her email here.

...................
Mae, Daniella's 3 year old female ferret, has an intervertebral
disc
problem. The disc is probably swollen and there is pressure on the
spinal cord. She has a partial paralysis of her hind legs.
She can move her feet and reacts to stimulus, but she can no longer
walk or run. Although there has been some improvement in the past
few days, further improvement has now ceased. At present she is
receiving Cortisone and a painkiller, and is kept apart from the
other ferrets.
The Dr. has indicated that she has only a 30% chance of recovery.
What else can Daniella do to help her little one?
...................
Do any of the Drs care to comment, or anyone with experience in this
sort of problem?
I have mailed Daniella and asked her when and how this problem
appeared and was diagnosed (x-ray, etc), and at what level the
problem is, and if there is any history of injury. I have asked her
to let me know the dosage of Cortison Mae is prescribed, and what
pain medication she is on. I will post this as soon as I have the
details and will translate the reply back to Daniella. Though my
German is grammatically incorrect, it is fluent and I had no language-
related incidents in four years of working in German and Austrian
hospitals.
