Certainly in Europe and Australasia, the term "cortisone" is often
used to include both the naturally occurring and the synthetic
glucosteroid compounds such as prednisone, which is specifically
formulated for for oral administration. As far as I am aware, it is
not so commonly available as a parenteral formulation. Synthetic
cortisone (cortisone acetate) on the other hand, is prepared for both
oral and parenteral use.
This seems to be where the theory of common language falls down!
