Subject: Unneutered male urine marking

I'm thinking about adopting a unneutered male ferret who I found on my front
lawn last week. (I couldn't find his owner and no one has claimed him at
animal control.) The problem is whenever he is out of his kennel he
urinates all over place, ie pees and walks. I'm wondering if neutering
would stop this behavior. I couldn't stand having him in a cage all the
time, but I couldn't have him peeing all over my house. I know we have very
limited success with neutering older male cats who spray (I was a vet tech
for 10 yrs) but I have no experience with ferrets' marking. When he is in
his kennel he always uses the box so I don't think it's a medical problem.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Also, how long does would it
take for him to become socially acceptable in the stink department after
neutering, he's crazy smelly right now!

Thanks for the help!

Jen, Kira the dog and unnamed fuzzy!
