In the 16 years I've had ferrets, none of mine ever did this until we
got Penny. Coincidentally, she's the first and only female ferret
we've had so far. But I'm sure this behavior is not restricted to
females.

She has a half-dozen small, plush toys that she stores in various
places. Often she'll just move them around for no apparent reason.
We sometimes eat in front of the TV and she's a real mooch and always
wants some of whatever it is we're eating. She'll climb the couch and
jump on the table and we'll put her back on the floor. After three
times of putting her back on the floor(never two times, never four
times), she'll run behind the bookcase and get one of her "babies"
and move it to a new location. Who knows what that's all about and
why three times is the magic number.
