Dear Joanne:
I would first evaluate Zorro for the possibility of heart disease,
which can also cause lethagy and difficulty breathing, and at this
time do a complete blood workup.
Enlarged spleens can prevent expansion oft he diaphragm and inhibit
breathing, and if everyhting checks out, then removal ofthe spleen
would be an acceptable course of action.
I would also check the adrenals carefully at surgery, as oily fur may
be a sign of androgen overproduction.
