Subject: Info needed: vascular, current cardiac, adhesions, etc;
Seven had some unpleasant surprises

Seven had her surgery this morning as the first patient.

Her heart rate had trouble and she had some arrhythmia while under so
needed atropine to be safest. Her heart had been checked before going
in but she had a more thorough heart exam after surgery than before
and might have extremely early cardiomyopathy. There was a very tiny
bit of edema so she had some Lasix. She might turn out to be Digoxin
girl like Meltdown was, and hopefully will do at least as well as
Meltie did on it *IF* she turns out to need meds now. Digoxin
controlled ventricular arrhythmia for Meltdown just marvelously for
over a year, I guess closer to a year and half but that's just from
memory. She of course has ultrasounds in her future.

Two pancreatic nodules that were gone in for were of two different
colors with one red and in a bad spot, endangering a blood vessel
that is essential for intestinal survival, but they came out well
without a bleed-out, though he could not take a margin on the one
right next to the blood vessel. It is very fortunate that she had
seizures in borderline glucose levels or it would have been very
dangerous for that vessel and for her survival. She was very
fortunate.

We had all had hopes that he could visualize her right adrenal which
had been debulked in the past (it is inside her Vena Cava but she
didn't develop enough collateral circulation to safely do a ligation
at any point. She has developed adhesions (rare in a ferret) and it
has now become too tricky to even touch as a result. We'll watch for
signs of adrenal hyperplasia or even of the opposite (atrophy) sicne
this is an unusual situaiton. Hopefully, it will just remain quiet
but functional as it has since her one Lupron shot about 6 month ago.
We are used to giving Florinef and Pred, but hope to avoid such a
situation since steroids aren't exactly the best things to give with
heart disease, though if you have to then you do. Time will tell.

A bit of liver is being biopsied as well due to appearance, but she
was an adult rescue of unknown age who had been half staved when
found by the shelter that had her.

Tonight she has to stay in under observation, and we'll know what we
know when the pathology comes back, and when further testing is done,
and when her body tells us, given that some of the surprises are not
ones that are easy to understand.

***** Haven't had a treatable cardiomyopathy in a while, so would
appreciate knowing about meds beyond the usuals of Digoxin, Lasix,
Enacard, and Co-enzyme 10 Q given with a bit of vitamins C and E.
Posts on that would be appreciated. Obviously, we know to not give
anything with licorice, ginseng, caffeine or anything else that can
mess up rate or pressure. *****

***** I suspect there's not much anyone can add about the vascular
situations by the pancreas and R adrenal, but if there is would
appreciate info.*****

***** Info on adhesions encountered in ferrets would be appreciated.*****

***** Further advice that may be helpful in her case that I haven't
thought to ask for appreciated.*****

Our vet is a good one and is always happy to learn in those times when something said turns out to be new to him.
