Subject: Re: Info needed: vascular, current cardiac, adhesions, e...

Hi Sukie,
Sorry about the recent loss of Warp.

Adhesions from a previous surgery is not uncommon.
I have seen it in several cases. I was talking to a vet
from St. Louis just yesterday, and she commented how she sees
more adhesions after cryosurgery (on the right adrenal gland).

Vascular surgery is a fine art, but it can be done in ferrets.
With surgical loupes, vascular clamps, forceps, and small
vascular suture material, a lot of tumors (insulinoma/adrenal)
can be removed, and the vessel can be repaired with sutures.

As far as other heart meds that may help, well you covered
the main ones, but supplementing with taurine and L carnitine
might help. We are not sure why ferrets are prone to heart
problems, so we do not have a "cure" product yet. We just try
to manage and control the problem. I would recommend a cardiac
ultrasound to find out what type of heart problem is present. Then
medications can be tailored to the problem.
Good Luck with her,
Jerry Murray, DVM
