Bob

Interesting post. I'm not a vet or over-knowledgeable with ferrets,
but I do remember reading that in the past ferrets fed on a milk and
bread diet may not have had a long life span because of this.
However, if supplemented with meat this should have helped prolong
their health and longevity. Also gamekeepers would have been more
ruthless with their ferrets and perhaps only kept the healthiest
creatures and killed off any poor doers or older creatures.

This would mean that only the healthiest and younger animals would
survive. Being stronger perhaps they could fight an infection of
distemper or many other diseases.

In this day and age our own immune systems are compromised due to our
artificial living environment and foods. The same must go for the
animals that live with us.
