Subject: Fleas

Hi Everyone,

I'm new to this list and a new ferret owner. I
adopted Snowy (a 2 yr old male) from a shelter this
past Saturday. He's the only ferret I have (or plan
to get) since he's highly aggressive towards other
ferrets which is why his owner finally had to give him
up.

Anyways... Snowy came with some friends from the
shelter: fleas. He's scheduled to see the vet a week
from this Saturday for a general check-up and for his
yearly shots. The vet knows he has fleas as well, so
hopefully will take care of that then. My question is
what I can I do in the mean time to make him more
comfortable (he's itching, chewing, and rubbing on the
floor to try to get them off. I have seen the fleas,
so I know its that and not dry skin) and protect my
apt from becoming flea infested?

I tried having him play in some water yesterday to
drown the fleas. I put about 2 inches of warm water
(so it wouldn't seem cold to him) in the bath tub and
let him walk around in it. He was doing fine, evening
laying down a bit and letting me put some of the water
on his back for a couple minutes and then he started
flipping out. He was frantically trying to get out
the tub, so I took him out and brought him & a towel
into his play room. He continued to flip out and hid
under a futon. He wouldn't let me near him and I
couldn't get him to come out. I finally got him to
come out and calm down by offering him a raisin.

Except for playing in water (which did get about 3 or
4 fleas off, but I don't want to try that again after
his reaction) I'm all out of ideas to help him. Any
ideas on what to do until his vet appt would be
greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Seeker & Snowy
